GM2 provided construction engineering and inspection services for the replacement of the existing two span State Street Bridge over the Mill River with a single span structure. Project complexities included unexpected conflicts with the relocation of an unknown water main, the discovery of groundwater contamination and discovery of contaminated soil. Poor soil conditions required redesign of the piles supporting the abutments and extensive drilling in areas of close proximity to existing I-91 structure pile foundations hence limiting vertical and lateral clearances.
