Client: RIDOT
Construction Cost: $2.9 Million
Key Facts:
GM2 is providing traffic and site/civil engineering services under a multi-year contract for the evaluation, recommendation and design of improvements for 15 high hazard intersections located in the towns of North and South Kingstown, Narragansett and Westerly. GM2 is the designer of record and responsible for all phases of traffic design and analysis, highway, drainage, pavement marking and signing, maintenance and protection of traffic, and illumination design, utility coordination and preparing permit documents.
In its review RIDOT said that GM2 “did more than was asked which resulted in creative and better solutions for the project work. GM2’s staff was excellent to work with and very responsive.”
Construction has been completed at the intersections of Route 108 at Charles Street and Route 108 (Kingstown Road) at Saugatucket Road/Curtis Corner Road in the Town of South Kingstown. GM2 designed the new traffic signals to address various safety and delay issues identified during the study.
GM2 also completed final design plans for constructing a multilane roundabout at the currently signalized intersection of RI 2 and RI 102 in North Kingstown to improve traffic operations and a history of traffic accidents. GM2 reviewed the intersection of RI 2 and RI 102 and developed multiple alternatives to mitigate the existing accident problems. The roundabout was selected over signal replacements by the RIDOT based on the traffic analysis and concept layout study prepared by GM2.
