GM2’s I-84 Mixmaster project team along with the CTDOT came together to help promote National Work Zone Awareness Week from April 26-30, 2021.
Raising more awareness of safety in work zones is a campaign that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), ATSSA and AASHTO has worked hard to make a high priority. This campaign has been designed to help educate the public about the potential dangers of work zones and to increase the overall safety of all workers, motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists. From 2019 to 2021, crashes have significantly reduced from 1,079 to 66 proving that the necessity of raising awareness works and communicating this to the public saves lives.
Connecticut’s motto “Obey the Orange - Slow Down for Work Zones” reminds each one of us that we play an integral role in reducing the number of potentially fatal crashes around work zones by exercising caution and helping to increase safety.
